  • Fullerton College adds 12 to athletic hall of fame

    Fullerton College inducted 12 former athletes and coaches into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, April 7, with an on-campus dinner and ceremony attended by 300 including nine of the inductees.Two of the inductees, Dave Wilson and Steve Kiefer, reached the highest levels of professional sports in the United States and credited the coaching and experience gained at Fullerton in with key roles in them playing in the NFL and Major League baseball, respectively.Wilson played quarterback at Katella, where he set single-game (278 yards) and season (1,358) records.

  • CSUF Helps Small Businesses Prepare for Disaster

    Administered by Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, the network’s seven centers are now offering continuity training to help small businesses anticipate, prepare and recover in the case of a natural disaster.

    The Seismic Safety Commission grant awarded $220,000 to fund the effort.

    “The focus is to help businesses plan how they will respond both during and after, say a large earthquake,” said Michael Daniel, director of the CSUF Small Business Development Center. “We’re helping business owners develop individualized disaster preparedness plans that are best suited for their business and operations.”   Read More

  • Cal State Fullerton to Further Harness the Sun’s Power

    It’s been four years since the university “threw the switch” for a photovoltaic installation on the rooftops of the Clayes Performing Arts Center, the Kinesiology and Health Science Building and the Eastside Parking Structure.
    That 1.16 megawatt installation produces electricity equivalent to eliminating 5,180 passenger vehicles from the road annually and will do so over the next 25 years, saving the campus approximately $9 million in utility savings, said Willem Van der Pol, interim associate vice president for facilities planning and management.   Read More

  • Scholar’s Research in Coastal Waters Led to Winning Thesis

    Cal State Fullerton biology alumna Sara Briley spent two years, many days and hours swimming in Alamitos Bay in Long Beach counting eelgrass — found in shallow coastal areas — for her thesis research.She collected samples and took them back to the lab to study the impacts Olympia oyster bed restoration may have on nearby eelgrass beds.Since 2010, her faculty mentor, Danielle Zacherl, professor of biological science, and her students have been restoring Olympia oyster beds in local coastal waters.   Read More

  • Class of ’16 Standouts Include CSU Trustee, Auto Industry Careerist CSUF Alumni Association Names Top Senior, Grad Student

    From the CSUF Public Information Office --Recognized for their achievements in academics, community service and extracurricular activities, Cal State Fullerton students Kelsey Brewer and Rex Bartholomew — both members of the Class of 2016 — are receiving the CSUF Alumni Association’s 2016 Outstanding Senior and Outstanding Graduate Student awards.Brewer, is a senior political science major and contributes more than 100 hours of community service per month as an appointed trustee for the California State University Board of Trustees and vice chair of its Government Relations Committee.   Read More
